Driving in Zion and what it does to your vehicle

Zion driving is short trips: school runs, the Metra station, Sheridan Road errands, and the commute west to Green Bay Road or Route 173. Short trips in cold weather never fully warm an engine, which is hard on oil, batteries and exhaust systems. Winter adds salt, and the lake wind along Sheridan Road and near Illinois Beach State Park pushes slush and spray onto everything under the car.

Good to know

• Zion streets on the east side carry the city's biblical names, such as Gideon, Galilee, Hebron and Deborah. If you are coming from that grid, 21st Street is the fastest way west to us.
• Route 173 is the main east west road on the north side of Zion and connects to I-94. It is our usual route for customers coming from Russell and the western townships.
• If you can not wait at the shop, plan a drop off. Most Zion addresses are a short ride from Horizon Court.
